In most people’s opinions, Barbie Doll is an unrealistic, unattainable model for young children to play with and want to duplicate. Children love Barbie because it projects the image of a perfect world. The nice clothes, beautiful pool, big houses and the handsome companion of Barbie doll propose a world of an ideal image. More significantly, Barbie is often blamed for the unhealthy practices many girls and women adopt in order to try to achieve a physique as attractive as the fashion doll's. Little girls, for a long time, had no choice but to play with white dolls, with the most popular choice being the Barbie Doll. This toy was thought of being the "ideal" model girls would want to look and be like when they grew up. As a young girl, I did not share the same experience with many young girls who grew up with Barbie. Instead, I did not play with Barbie at all. Because of my brother, I inclined to collect the models of superman and monster rather than Barbie doll. Therefore, my personal view on Barbie can not represent the whole influence of it. But one thing for sure, Barbie does propose some effects on children as most toys. If Barbie plants bad influence on kids, then what images do other toys propose?
Children enjoying play with toys because they can absorb fun easily and simply. Scarcely did any kids consider the influence that toys they were playing with would bring later in their life. In contrast, adults’ world is more complex. They always perceive something with extensive effects and overlook the initial intention of those subjects. How can the blame on Barbie dolls for the realistic value in children’s minds. Parents are always the most direct influence on children rather than toys. Children play toys is not for the intention to recognize the world but for the simple idea to enjoy life.
I agree with your opinion on this matter and that as that young girl, whether you played with Barbie or not, you loved your toys because they were simply fun and enjoyed them. The thought of them having a certain influence on you in the fiture most likely did not come across your mind, but instead your parents'. Your point of how adults more deeply consider this topic than young children actually playing with the toys do, is very alike my opinion. At first, Barbie is a nice looking toy that young girls (mostly) love to play with with their friends and dress up in different outfits. It is simply a toy that young children want because their friends have or if they see it in a store. But, as these children grow up they outgrow Barbies and move on to other toys and entertainment such as television shows and magazines. These shows and magazines continue to give these girls an image of perfect, beautiful, thin, and successful women who give them pressure to be the same. I personally believe there should be more entertainment, whatever it may be, associated with self-confidence and loving your self-image because trying to be like another "fantasized" person gets exhausting after a while. While Barbie does not directly encourage the wrong behavior, such as hurting yourself, it is the beginning of the pressure for a girl to be beautiful, perfect, and thin, and this image should be looked at closer by manufacturers, in my opinion.
